Men of Valor Board of Directors
Men of Valor is supported by a Board of Directors, made up of
successful community leaders who give generously of their time
and talents.
They are:
John B. Avery III
Married to Sarah Hendrix Avery, they are members of Covenant Presbyterian
Church, Nashville. Born in Union City, TN, he received his B.A. and MBA
from Memphis State University. President of Millenium Medical Trust,
manager of small rural hospitals in Middle Tennessee. MOV mentor for
over 5 years.
Steve Childress, Secretary
Works in commercial real estate, specializing in medical real estate,
in association with Holladay Properties, Nashville. Graduate of
Trevecca University, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business
Administration. Moved to Nashville in 1974, and he has been a part
of Nashville's business community for over 25 years.
William M. Clark
As an active member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, Bill
has been a MOV mentor for more than 5 years. He also serves as a director
for the Music City Tres Dias community, a non-denominational ministry
devoted to developing Christian leaders. Bill graduated with a Bible
Degree from Belhaven College in Jackson, Mississippi, in 1977. His
professional career includes 25 years of experience in senior executive
sales management for a number of companies. He now operates his own pallet
recycling company, ITNOPLAP Pallet & Crating, in Murfreesboro, Tennessee,
where he has hired several former MOV inmates after their release from
prison.
J. R. Davis
Proud father of two grown sons, Jonathon and Jordan. Married 28 years
to wife, Kathy. J.R. is a partner in Winco
Productions. He is a deacon at Brook Hollow Baptist Church in West Meade.
J.R.'s son, Jordan, served a number of years at MTCC prison in Nashville.
Meredith E. Flautt, Jr.
Meredith grew up in Nashville, graduated from MBA and then Hanover College, where he and his future wife began their walk with Christ. He returned to Nashville to begin a career in the financial services industry where he remains. His firm, Flautt Financial, Inc., specializes in estate and retirement planning for individual and corporate clients. He and Christy have seven "fabulous" children and three wonderful grandchildren. His community involvement has grown out of his commitment to family, friends, and the "burdens" that the Lord has put on his heart. In addition to being a MOV mentor, he has served as Board member of Middle Tennessee Home Education Association, Christian Leadership Concepts, Inc., and Christian Fellowship of Nashville, a partner organization to Hands in Service in Soroti, Uganda. Meredith usually spends part of February in Uganda with one or more of his children and most of September on the Michigan shoreline with his family.
John (Jack) M. Hooper II
Graduate of George Peabody College and owner of Tennessee Wine and Spirits
Company. He has served two terms as Chairman of the Board for the Martha
O'Bryan Center. He has served for over 6 years on the Board of the Alcohol
and Drug Council. He developed a student counseling program in public schools.
He has served on the Board of the Parthenon and has been a Board Member of
the Cumberland River Compact. Married to Lisle since 1961, they have two
children and four grandchildren. He is a member of Nashville's Christ
Church.
David C. Hooven
David is the co-owner of Keller Williams of Mr. Juliet and
partner in JDR Investments, LLC, a real estate development company. He
has been involved in real estate in the Nashville area for more than 25
years. He is a native of Nashville and graduated from MTSU with a BS
Degree in 1970. He served in the U.S. Army from 1970 to 1975 and was
honorably discharged as Captain. He is a member of Nolensville United
Methodist Church. He is privileged to act as the Youth Director at
Hamilton UMC and began youth mission trips to Mountain Top in Cumberland
Mountains at two churches. He is a Certified Lay Speaker, UMC Chairman
of Evangelism, and served on the Pastor Parish Relations committee at
Nolensville United Methodist Church. He is a MOV mentor, taught Jobs
for Life in prison, and is a MOV financial supporter. He has been
married to Anna for 40 years and has two sons, Steve and Jeff, and five
wonderful grandchildren.
Granville "Sonny" Lyons, Chairman
Sonny moved to Nashville from Albuquerque, New Mexico at an early age.
Has a Bachelor of Science degree in Speech Communications and Theatre
from TSU, where he was an All-American football player. He is a former
public High School teacher and coach, as well as a former jail
administrator with the Metro Sheriff's Department. He is currently
the Recruitment Center Manager for the Human Resources Department of
Metro Nashville. He is Assistant Minister at Lake Providence Baptist Church.
He is married to Laurie, and they have five wonderful
and talented children, and two precious grandchildren.
John Oman
Has been married for 22 years to his wife, Martha. They have two
daughters, Catherine (19), and Elizabeth (15). He received a B.S. degree
in Building Science from Auburn University and a MBA from Vanderbilt
University. He is President of Oman Systems, Inc., a software developent
company based in Nashville. He is a member of First Presbyterian Church,
currently serving as Deacon and Chairman of the Property Committee. He
participates in a CLC (Christian Leadership Concepts) Bible study, and
has taught fifth and sixth grade Sunday school classes. He is a mentor
for Men of Valor at the prison.
Edmond (Eddy) R. Queen
Native of Nashville, TN. Attended David Lipscomb from kindergarten to
sophomore in college, before transferring to the University of Tennessee,
Knoxville. President of Queens Tree Surgery, Inc. since September 1972,
and continues in that position. Married for twenty-four years to Cindy,
and they have four wonderful children. Two sons are in Lipscomb
University, one son is in Lipscomb High School, and his daughter is in
sixth grade at Lipscomb. Member of Woodmont Hills Church of Christ.
Overton Thompson III, Associate Chairman
Has worked in commercial litigation since 1984, currently as a partner
with Bass, Berry, & Sims. He graduated from Vanderbilt in 1981, and
from Vanderbilt University School of Law in 1984. He has been, and
continues to be, actively involved in various community and volunteer
organizations. Overton is a mentor for Men of Valor at the prison. He
is married to Robin, and they have three children; Jillian, Emily, and
Overton. They are members at First Presbyterian Church, and he is a Sunday
school teacher there.
Dr. David Watts
Radiologist with Advanced Diagnostic Imaging. Practice is primarily at Hendersonville Medical Center. Bachelor of Science University of Tennessee (Knoxville) 1970.
Doctor of Medicine University of Tennessee Center for Health Sciences 1978. Captain, Medical Corps, United States Navy (Retired). Ordained deacon Woodmont Baptist Church. Married to Vicki. They attend Eastland Baptist Church in Nashville.
James A. Webb III
Co-founder and Executive Vice-President of Freeman-Webb, Inc., Jimmy
is a native Nashvillian, and a 1970 graduate of Vanderbilt University.
He entered the United States Navy as a commissioned officer, and before
his honorable discharge in 1975, he served in Vietnam. James was awarded
the Navy Commendation Medal and the Navy Unit Citation. He is a prior
Chairman of the YMCA of Middle Tennessee, as well as a former President
of Sister Cities of Nashville. He is a founding and current member of
the Board of the Nashville Zoo. He, his wife Becky Smotherman Webb,
and their three sons, are members of First Presbyterian Church, where he
is an Elder.
Andrew Wilson, Treasurer
Born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana, Andy moved to Birmingham,
Alabama, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree from Samford
University. He is married to Brooke. Andrew has worked in Public
Accounting for nine years, most recently with Meridian Healthcare. He
is a Men of Valor mentor at the prison, as well as a member and worship
leader at West End Community Church.
Don Zimmerman
Married to Jetta Zimmerman for over 50 years, with four children, and
six grandchildren. Don lives on a farm south of Mt. Juliet. He moved
to Tennessee from Wisconsin in 1970. Sold his business, Textile
Converters, Inc. in 1985, and retired. Don has been an active member of
Celebraion Lutheran Church in Mt. Juliet for over 15 years. He served on
the church council, and was President for a term. Don also served as
Commodore of Harbor Island Yacht Club. He and his wife supported
and worked at the Help Center of Mt. Juliet, which provides emergency
food, clothing, and other essentials to those in need. Was Founder of
the weekly Chronicle of Mt. Juliet newspaper. He has been a
mentor with Men of Valor since 2003, and expects to be of service for
many years to come.
