Who Are the Board of Directors for 2012?
Men of Valor is supported by a Board of Directors, made up of successful community leaders who give generously of their time and talents.
They are:
Overton Thompson III, Chairman
Has worked in commercial litigation since 1984, currently as partner with Bass, Berry & Sims. He graduated from Vanderbilt in 1981 and from Vanderbilt University School of Law in 1984. He has been, and continues to be, actively involved in many, varied community and volunteer organizations. Mentor for Men of Valor at the prison. He is married to Robin, and they have three children, Jillian, Emily, and Overton. They are members at First Presbyterian Church, where he is a Sunday school teacher and elder.
Jack Wallace, Associate Chairman
Insurance Broker with Willis Group for over 25 years. Raised in Nashville, Tennessee and graduated from the University of Alabama in 1981. Serves as an Elder of Covenant Presbyterian Church, Board Member of Centerstone Mental Health Centers, Board Member for the Boys and Girls Club of Middle Tennessee and Trustee for Harpeth Hall School. Married to Elizabeth in 1984, and they have four children ages 16 – 22.
John Oman, Secretary
Has been married for 25 years to his wife, Martha, and they have two daughters, Catherine (24), and Elizabeth (20). He received a BS degree in Building Science from Auburn University and an MBA from Vanderbilt University. He is president of Oman Systems, Inc., a software development company based in Nashville. He has served as a Deacon and an Elder at First Presbyterian Church and currently attends The Village Chapel. He is a mentor for MOV at the prison.
Andrew Wilson, Treasurer
Born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana, Andy moved to Birmingham, Alabama, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree from Samford University. He is married to Brooke and they have one child, Caleb. He has worked in Public Accounting for 8 years, before moving into accounting and finance roles with CHD Meridian Healthcare. He is a Men of Valor mentor at the prison, as well as a member and worship leader at West End Community Church.
William M. Clark
As an active member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, Bill has been a MOV mentor for over 5 years. He also serves as a director for the Music City Tres Dias community, a non-denominational ministry devoted to developing Christian leaders. Bill graduated with a Bible Degree from Belhaven College in Jackson, MS, in 1977. His professional career includes 25 years of experience in senior executive sales management for a number of companies. He now operates his own pallet recycling company, ITNOPLAP Pallet & Crating, in Murfreesboro, TN, where he has hired several former MOV inmates after their release from prison.
Jeffrey T. Dobyns
President and founding partner of Southwestern Investment Services, Inc. Jeff has been Dave Ramsey’s Endorsed Local Provider for Investments since 2002. His leadership has helped grow Southwestern Investment Services, Inc., a subsidiary of Southwestern Company, into one of the top-producing branches of Raymond James Financial Services, Inc. Received his Certified Financial Planner TM, Chartered Life Underwriter and Chartered Financial Consultant designations. Graduated Ohio University in Athens, Ohio where he earned a degree in business administration with an emphasis in finance. He is married to Amy, and they have two children, Gracyn and Hunter. Jeff and his family attend Brentwood Baptist Church. He has been a Men of Valor mentor since 2007.
Meredith E. Flautt, Jr.
Meredith grew up in Nashville, graduated from MBA and then Hanover College, where he and his future wife began their walk with Christ. He returned to Nashville to begin a career in the financial services industry where he remains. His firm, Flautt Financial, Inc., specializes in estate and retirement planning for individual and corporate clients. He and Christy have seven “fabulous” children and three wonderful grandchildren. His community involvement has grown out of his commitment to family, friends, and the “burdens” that the Lord has put on his heart. In addition to being a MOV mentor, he has served as Board member of Middle Tennessee Home Education Association, Christian Leadership Concepts, Inc., and Christian Fellowship of Nashville, a partner organization to Hands in Service in Soroti, Uganda. Meredith usually spends part of February in Uganda with one or more of his children and most of September on the Michigan shoreline with his family. He and his wife are members of the People’s Church in Murfreesboro, a Baptist affiliated church.
R. Edward Hutton, Jr.
Eddie studied and graduated at the University of Mississippi. He has worked in the Air Conditioning industry since 1977 as a partner in both Interstate AC Service and Kimbro Mechanical. He also served as past President of the Air Conditioning Contractors of America Service. A life long Nashvillian Eddie is married to Linda, and they have two lovely children. In addition to being a MOV mentor and volunteer he is also an active member of Covenant Presbyterian Church where he served on their Building Committee
Lawrence H. Kloess, lll (Larry)
Larry recently retired from HCA after 28 years of senior leadership responsibility, most recently serving as the CEO of Centennial Medical Center from 1998-2005, and then the President of HCA’s TriStar Division from 2005-2011. Beginning in January 2012, Larry became the Senior Advisor for Clayton Associates, a local venture capital firm with special emphasis in healthcare. He is a native of Montgomery, Alabama, and is the eldest of 4 brothers. Larry obtained his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Alabama and his Masters degree in Hospital Administration from Xavier University in Cincinnati, OH. Larry and his wife, Karen, have been married for 32 years, and have two adult children, both of whom live in middle Tennessee. Larry and Karen are active members of Brentwood Baptist Church where Larry has served as Deacon and the Chairman of the Stewardship Committee for the church. They have also been active in numerous community and professional organizations, including Alive Hospice, Big Oak Ranch, and the Tennessee Hospital Association, where Larry served as the Board Chairman in 2011. Larry and Karen live in Franklin, TN, and have supported MOV ministry for the past 6 years.
Granville “Sonny” Lyons
Sonny moved to Nashville from Albuquerque, New Mexico at an early age. Has a Bachelor of Science degree in Speech Communications and Theatre from TSU where he was an All-American football player. He is a former public High School teacher and coach, as well as a former jail administrator with the Metro Sheriff’s Department. He is currently the Recruitment Center Manager for the Human Resources Department of Metro Nashville. He is Assistant Minister at Lake Providence Baptist Church. He is married to Laurie, and they have five wonderful and talented children, and two precious grandchildren.
Steve Merryman
Born and raised in the Nashville area, He is co-owner of Merryman-Farr, LLC Mechanical Contractors with 30 years in the industry. He is married to Sherri (29 yrs) and they have two daughters and he and his wife are members of Joy Church International in Mt. Juliet. He has been involved with MOV for over 8 years.
Thomas Ozburn
Chief Executive Officer at HCA's Southern Hills Medical Center in Nashville, where he is responsible for overall operations of the 120-bed medical/surgical hospital. He is a native of Chattanooga, earned a bachelor of science in Health Care Management from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa and a masters of Health Administration and a masters of Business Administration from the University of Memphis. He is board certified in healthcare management by the American College of Healthcare Executives and the American College of Medical Practice Executives. Ozburn is the Board Chairman for the Harding YMCA. He also serves as the Board Chairman for the Tennessee Christian Chamber of Commerce and the Nashville Zoo. Additionally, he serves as a prison mentor with the Men of Valor program. Thomas and his wife, Lori Mitchell (an Anchor/Reporter for News Channel 2 in Nashville) have two children.
Dr. David Watts
Dr. Watts is a Radiologist with Advanced Diagnostic Imaging. His practice is primarily at Hendersonville Medical Center. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree at the University of Tennessee (Knoxville) in 1970, as well as a Doctor of Medicine at the University of Tennessee Center for Health Sciences in 1978. Dr. Watts was a Captain, Medical Corps, for the United States Navy (Retired). He is an ordained deacon at Woodmont Baptist Church. He is married to Vicki and they both attend Eastland Baptist Church in Nashville. David has been a volunteer and mentor at MOV for a number of years.
James A. Webb, III
Co-founder and Executive Vice-President of Freeman-Webb, Inc., Jimmy is a native Nashvillian and a 1970 graduate of Vanderbilt University. He entered the United States Navy as a commissioned officer, and before his honorable discharge in 1975 he served in Vietnam where he was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal and the Navy Unit Citation. He is past chairman of the YMCA of Middle Tennessee and past president of Sister Cities of Nashville. He is a founding and current member of the Board of the Nashville Zoo. He also serves on the MBA board of directors. He and his wife, Becky Smotherman Webb, and their three sons are members of First Presbyterian Church, where he is an elder.
